GST registration threshold for online sellers

Turnover thresholds apply to many businesses — but marketplace sellers often need GST from day one. Here's the rule.

Offline businesses often register only after crossing a turnover threshold. Marketplace sellers are different.

The marketplace rule

Selling taxable goods through e-commerce operators (Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, etc.) generally requires GST registration regardless of turnover. So most online sellers need a GSTIN from the start.

And remember GST is state-wise — wherever you store stock, you need a GSTIN there too. Use our multi-state checker.

Need to register? A VPOB gets you the GSTIN without an office. This is general information, not tax advice — confirm specifics with a professional.
